Colie's Memory Quilts
The purpose of Colie's Memory Quilts is to raise awareness and prevent suicide by placing a "Face on Suicide" --- a visual image to honor the memory of a loved one. The quilts will be used for public awareness and fund-raising events, survivor conferences, etc.
We would like to share the simple message that suicide happens in good families, and it can happen to any of us. You can become a part of this message by participating in the Memory Quilt.
You can create a quilt block to honor the memory of your loved one using a picture (thus the faces of suicide), artwork, or writings to reflect their soul. You do not have to be a quilter --- just express your love and leave the quilting to us!
If you are interested in honoring the memory of a loved one with a quilt block for Colie's Memory Quilts you may design a quilt block by following the instructions listed below.
Instructions for your Memory Quilt Block
- Use a plain sheet of white paper 8 1/2 inches by 11 inches to make a draft for your block. Use the portrait orientation (the long direction of the paper should go up and down) to make your draft.
- Pen and paper work great for sketching out the details of your block and to act as a blueprint for the person that will complete this for you.
- Please use a picture of your loved one (thus the faces of suicide), you may also want to include their name, birth, and death date.
- Most local copy stores (e.g. Kinko's) will scan a color or black and white picture for you. Trim the picture and attach to your paper draft using 2 sided scotch tape.
- Be creative, draw pictures, write love messages, etc. Make it a family or friendship project. You may include a piece of fabric from a favorite piece of clothing and this will be quilted into your block.
- The picture and artwork should stay within 1/2 inch of the sheet of paper you are using for your draft.
- Handle your draft with care, carry it flat---do not fold.
- To defray the cost of the quilting, we are requesting a donation of $20 per block. If this donation would cause any hardship, please feel free to participate without it - we don't want anyone to feel left out.
- Deliver the draft for your block and donation to Prosperity Quilt Shop located in the Meadows Shopping Center at 4800 Baseline Rd, next door to Blockbuster Videos store. The shop is open Monday-Friday 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, and Saturday 10 am to 5 pm. Make your check or money order payable to Colie's Quilts.

- Place the draft for your block and check or money order for your donation in a large envelope (DO NOT FOLD YOUR DRAFT) mark on the outside of your envelope. DO NOT BEND. Make your check or money order payable to Colie's Quilts
